Once Tom’s home I must try to get out of this habit of slow starts in the morning – but when people say to me that I should go to bed earlier I do wonder why I don’t – though I think I’ve just realised why – I am in a lot of pain in the mornings and feel exhausted – then once the steroids start to work, by the evening I feel so much better that I want to enjoy that energised feeling rather than wasting it going to bed. So the morning was spent catching up and looking at that blasted race tracker again. Would I be different if Tom was actually going to be away for a whole year. Wouldn’t it be dreadful to spend my year living vicariously through the Clipper Race Tracker and hoping each day that an email may arrive. How sad is that! Anyway, happily that is not happening any more!

I meet the two Jens at St Nic’s at 1pm and I’ve had some ideas of how we can remove the grass more quickly. Rain threatens all the time so they rake and brush, whilst I use the little hand rake on my hands and knees. It works beautifully – Jenny is so thoughtful to have brought a flask of tea and cups – so we relax afterwards in the shelter of the porch while the rain steadily worsens.

The rest of the day is earmarked for finishing my little essay – well starting and finishing I should say really. I have promised myself that what I have got to say does not need to take days to prepare. I am doing this online history course to enjoy myself and stimulate my mind – it really does not matter at all what mark I get. It’s important to make the effort to write well and thoughtfully but that is sufficient. So the 500 worder is completed and submitted this evening – with the help of a couple of glasses of red wine! I go to bed having checked the tracker again for the last time today at half past midnight!
