Barmouth Harbour

What I forgot to say was, that Liv heard last night that her swim race – HurlyBurly had been cancelled! The weather forecast was just too grim to allow it to go ahead. As we saw for ourselves, when the estuary is in flood with strong wind and rain, whole trees get washed downstream and could easily hit the swimmers. Also as the swim was due to start just as the sun came up, the light would not be too good to see any debris.

It was much windier than it looks!

So, we had a lazy start, enjoyed apple crumble and yoghurt for breakfast and then set out for Barmouth. Squally showers and strong wind made our walk with Rogie rather fun! He wasn’t too enamoured! Coffee in the town afterwards suited him though. Much to his disgust we carried in walking – following the route of the run that Liv had been planning to do before the swim. With the rain even heavier as we walked along the Mawddach path, Rogie went on strike and Liv had to carry him back to the pub for lunch. Then a drive up into Snowdonia past Blaenau Ffestiniog with all the slag heaps and onto Betwys Coed. All a little disappointing as the cloud was so low we couldn’t see even the foothills let alone the mountains.

Poor little Boy!

Back in the cottage, we researched where to go for dinner – the wine bar round the corner sounded perfect. Hmmm they don’t allow dogs. Two more places and we gave up in frustration. The ‘Cosy’ FishnChip Shop next door to the cottage solved our problems. All washed down with a bottle of excellen Italian wine – yes we had eaten ‘humble pie’ and returned to the wine bar for a takeaway!

The Cosy got our custom rather than the stuck-up wine bar!
A good choice too!
