Today en route from St Helier to St Peter Port we had pretty light winds and so had to have the motor on a lot of the time. But that was fine as it gave us the opportunity to learn more about navigation and also I started to play around with the handheld compass. I began to understand how critical tides are, particularly in the Channel Islands. Though at the moment I still am pretty bewildered. We arrived alongside on the visitors pontoon in St Peter Port at 17.45. Such a pretty town. Karen came to join us soon after and we started to realise that Dhara was concerned about the behaviour of the engine and felt that there was no way we could contemplate crossing the Channel with a dodgy engine.

Dinner was enjoyed on board. Astrid made a peanut butter bean and tomato stew which was delicious. I was chief chopper upper and had to be taught how to do it! We had red wine to help it slip down easily. I declined the pud as it was chocolate soya milk pudding. Washing up is a bit of a problem as the water is pumped and it all fell apart on the first day. So Dhara mended it by putting another button in. This meant to get any water you had to push the button with your knee, but if you pushed too hard the whole mechanism fell apart and you’d have to rewire it before Dhara noticed!
