The decision has been taken that we do not leave Guernsey until the engine has been cleared of it air bubble. So Karen, Astrid and I go off to the town to get cough mixture for Dhara who is still barking like a seal. I find it exhausting just listening to him, so what he must feel like… Up in the town everything is closed until at least 10am, so we found a picnic bench to have a sailing lesson. All so very helpful. Then breakfast in a cafe – spinach and egg on sourdough – lovely to get away from vegan pates and cheeses and soya for a while. We enjoyed a nav lesson over the breakfast table to the amusement of everyone around.

Jalapeno was fixed as we returned – the engine had been forced to do a big burp! We set off for Braye in Alderney at 12.45. With a mix of motoring and sail we arrived at 17.25. It was a pretty hairy arrival because of the overfalls outside the harbour. Still really exhilarating. We tied up onto a mooring buoy with the intention of leaving at 4am, though the oldie amongst us was given a lie in until 8am! There wasn’t much chance to sleep on though…

The icing on the cake was receiving a lovely email which I read and reread many times that night!
