I’ve just received delivery of five bare-root alder buckthorns! Jenny Q managed to get some from the Monday Chi Eco Group to plant in St Nic’s churchyard and then got some for me too! So, no time like the present, Rog and I braved the howling gale and got them planted. Fingers crossed they’ll take and grow well to attract all the lovely brimstone butterflies.

The proper name is Frangula alnus and apparently used to be used to make gunpowder! Pigments and dyes too!
