Is this the first blossom of the year? The Blackthorn? I think so ….. It looks so pretty in amongst the still dormant hedgerows. The very early nectar and pollen is a life saver for bees and once the leaves unfurl it provides food for the caterpillars of many moths. Birds nest among the dense, thorny thickets, eat the caterpillars and other insects from the leaves, and feast on the sloes in autumn.
