Jack by the Hedge

I love this name for this plant which is always to be found carpeting the shady base of a hedge. I picture a little boy who doesn’t want to go home to bed, so instead lurks by the hedge in the hope his mother doesn’t see him! The other name for this plant is Garlic Mustard – yes it is edible – take a few of the leaves and add to a salad to give a mild garlicky taste.. Not sure I’ll bother – the leaf I tested had no flavour at all!
