There’s loads of work going on a Kingley Vale this year. Though they must be making very slow progress – first it never stopped raining, now there’s been no rain for weeks and weeks and top of this work has stopped because of lockdown. So when I walked to see the 2000 year old yews, the area was looking pretty desolate. However, it is clear that new enclosures are being created – not sure whether to keep animals out or what. But these ‘hedges’ aren’t really hedges at all – just piles and piles of broken wood and branches held together by wooden stakes to create an unpenetrable barrier. Very effective!
