I have had the idea to grow meadowsweet ever since I saw some in Llewellyn’s Restaurant in Herne Hill! Then it popped up again in the Goodwood Magazine. So I tried to grow some from seed – nurturing the liitle seedlings so carefully and even planting them out in their own little bed. How did I fail to see that I already have well established plants around the pond. The frothy creamy-white flowers smell like marzipan and contrast beautifully with the dark green leaves and crimson stems.

So watching my seedlings grow has been perplexing as they don’t look anything like meadowsweet leaves – and they are not….. they are all thistles! Somehow the pure seeds must have got mixed with thistle seed and I have been lovingly caring for a bed of thistles!! I dropped Meadowmania an email and they have been so generous – they are sending me 20 plugplants! If they all grow I will have to go into business selling posies at my gate!
