Peggles are bursting up through the undergrowth!! Spring is surely on its way. This is the first I’ve seen on my wildflower patch! My Dad loved to use this old country name for a cowslip! And now he is no longer with me I will take over and keep his traditions going…. There are loads more – like tight little balls tucked in amongst all the grassy and woody debris ready for the warm sunshine to bring them to life!
Apparently cowslips indicate that the soil is sweet and ripe for other wild flowers. The name cowslip maybe comes from the Old English for cow dung as it was often found growing close in cow pastures. I have no idea where peggle came from though!!
