There are a few positives about lock down – the extra time has allowed me to concentrate on what to introduce into my garden – to try to make it that bit more wild.
Ever since I created my first wild patch well over ten years ago, I have used the same supplier – ‘Meadowmania’. I know they’re not Sussex based but the results from their plants, seeds and hedging have been excellent. I managed to get native Sussex Hedging from them three years ago and I am thrilled with how it has grown.
The latest attempts will be to grow Meadowsweet and Foxgloves from seed and Teasel, Purple Loosestrife and Yellow Iris from plug plants. All of these, with the exception of the foxgloves ideally need to be planted somewhere shady and damp.
So for the moment I’m growing the plugs on in pots until I have had time to create a new area near the dewpond.
