Bev’s Birthday today – makes me start thinking about all that has happened in the past year – all the hurt and unhappiness. So very sad – the end of an era, but of course, this happens to all families.

As Franki has shown interest in using Tom’s car this year, I start the ball rolling to sort the insurance out. Not too difficult or expensive!

Then I rush to see Jacqui at West Dean. I’d promised her that I was free all day, but something always crops up – this time a walking tour of Goodwood estate. But we still had a fun time walking around the glasshouses and admiring all the fruit trees as well as catching up with her news. It is such a beautiful spot. I buy windfall apples and pears, which I end up leaving in the cafe garden!

Off to the Kennels where my group have only just arrived for lunch. I can see this tour running very late or cut short. As is so often the way, Goodwood tries to organise visitors too much. I understand that it is felt that we need to entertain, but these men just want to have fun and catch up with each other. They are staying at Hound Lodge, but it isn’t ready for them, so I have been asked take them on a tour of the Grounds and the House. They clearly aren’t very interested and when I finally get them moving we are almost an hour late. Arriving at the House, talk has moved on to what gins I like! The tour is cut short and I call for the Land Rovers to pick them up…

The evening event at the Kennels goes much better and everyone seemed to love the talk – I didn’t get the fizz and canapés I was promised though! Not that I mind at all, dinner at home is much nicer.
