And they’re off – from Southend

I slept so well! All the strain of the past six months had started to melt away. Time to get on with normal day to day things that I love doing – nothing particularly exciting – just a feeling of contentment with who I am. Then jobs to catch up with – paying Louis for the house clearance – a sudden panic that I’d forgotten to tell him that the electric cooker needed to be left in the cottage. Would I be too late – he’d rung me earlier in the morning but I was still asleep. Luck was on my side! By mid afternoon I had received photos of all the rooms cleared – desperately sad I know but also a feeling of relief. I’d done all I could to respect the memories of my dear Dad. I hope he would have understood. The rest of the day went in a blur, I think Caro came over to see if I was ok. She’s a very dear person – even if at times I feel a little suffocated. Did I go for a bike ride – I have no idea. During the day I received photos and videos of the start of the first race – it looked like a beautifully calm day – probably the only one on that first week as I was to find out first hand later in the week!

Then out for dinner at Caroline and Nick’s in the evening – I’m a lucky girl to have such good friends. They were all bursting with questions about how the departure had gone – very well in fact! And I felt relaxed enough to chat about it. We were all pretty vocal about the shortcomings of Clipper and there were plenty of stories! and whether we fancied it!
