In the autumn of 2016 it was clear that quite a few of our trees were suffering from ash dieback. As some of them were alongside the road I needed to have them removed. I could have easily left the stumps in place – and it retrospect I should have done so to allow for a more natural rotting. Anyhow I had several trees completely felled and removed and this gave me the incentive to clear a horribly overgrown shrubby area alongside the fence bordering Vivien. It was a killer job which I started in the spring of 2017. I hired a mechanical rotovator as I wanted to start completely afresh with proper Sussex hedging. I was on a tight timescale as the new whips needed to be planted before spring sprang! Sally came to help plant them – in the front and back garden and it has been a huge success!
