One of the problems of living alone – even temporarily is the worry that the alarm may fail to go off! I was so concerned that I mustn’t oversleep and miss my bus to MVD that I hardly slept a wink. I remember suddenly sitting bolt upright at 4am wondering why the alarm hadn’t woken me. By 6am I’d had enough – this gave me loads of time to shower again and have a proper breakfast of my leftovers! I left the flat at 7am giving myself a whole hour to walk the 20 minutes to the bus station. It was a great feeling to be going home even though I’d had perhaps the best two weeks of my life! The bus filled up on the outskirts of Punta and I arrived punctually at 9.45am. My mission then was to weigh my bag – urrggh it was 25kg and my rucksack was already full. So I filled my jacket pockets with all the heaviest small items possible and took out another couple of books. Phew it was down to 23kg. Then when I was charged $60 to transport the bag home I felt like asking whether I could put the extras back in! But didn’t dare risk it.
My plans to sit quietly and get on with my Country House reading proved impossible as I was rather expected to join a couple of supporters to drink bubbly! Not sure what kind, but I chose coffee instead! As there was a specialist wine shop I managed to get a bottle of Garzon Albarino and Viognier. Weird that the limit on wine purchase was just two bottles. I can’t wait to sample it with Tom when he gets home. I imagine we’ll also be sampling South African wines too!! I haven’t had any alcohol at home since Tom went – it just seems a bit pointless to drink alone.
The flight back to Madrid was easy – I had two seats and managed to have a good couple of hours sleep. I watched the end of the film Yesterday and also an Argentinian film called Rojo – very interesting and thought provoking – I must read more about the rise of the Junta in the mid 1970s.
There’s about three hours wait in Madrid airport then easy flight back to Terminal 5. What a treat to have someone waiting with a board with my name on about to take me home!
