This has been a huge tree felling season at Goodwood. We have been hit so hard by ash die-back and great swathes of the Goodwood forests have had to be cleared. Actually that’s not quite true, as the main emphasis has been on clearing the road verges of diseased trees to prevent accidents. This log stack is a regular one up near the racecourse – I like to watch how it grows over the year, then it is all loaded up and taken away and we’re left looking at lots of rotting bark remains. Heaven for all the beetles and woodlice
